Owned by a 4th grader.
So we had name tags this time round when we went on service. Everybody had a chinese name on theirs except mine (and my sister's). This 4th grader came up to me and asked me whether I was chinese or not because I didn't have a chinese name. Seizing this great opportunity, I wanted to say something outrageous (don't get scientific with the African, please).
"I'm actually like 90% African"
To which the kid responded,
"Not many people would understand African"
hahaha. I thought I was doing pretty well. Then Stephanie asked the little boy,
"Do you really believe that he's African?"
After which I got owned:
"Yea. He told me, and he's not supposed to lie."
Thing was, he was totally serious. Doh!

Hahaha. I'm a bit late for this one. Happy 2007 peoples!
Well, this other day, this freshman asked me, "What grade are you? Are you a freshman?" My elated response was, "Wow! Do I look that young?" [aside: "Yessss!" with that arm pumping move that people do when they just did something super.] But after that, he just totally owned me, "Wow, you're already worrying about your age?"
By purple jumping corn I am! Well, not really. This past year has just been full of interesting experiences. For example, in APUSH we got to read about our very own history, 2004 I think! And then later I found a news article from 1997. Quite recent no? But that's almost a decade a go. Gosh. My heuristic that anything that happened in my life is recent is just falling apart.
Anyway, I checked back on my new years resolutions from last year:
5. Be healthier 4. Don't be a scary fool 3. Don't get eaten by a shark 2. Do myself proud so I can say, "I've kept more than one New Years Resolutions this year!" Yea, it's a self-esteem booster
And naturally, the most serious one of all for last 1. Grow 5 inches. This isn't too unreasonable, right? I think Santa will still give me it.
How many did I keep? Let's work backwards, with "nopes" and "yay!"s 5. Be healthier (Did not get to sleep enough... nope) 4. Don't be a scary fool (Dont' think I was scary. Just stupid... yay!) 3. Don't get eaten by a shark (woot... yay!) 2. Do myself proud so I can say, "I've kept more than one New Years Resolutions this year!" Yea, it's a self-esteem booster (I dunno. If I judge myself as passing this resolution, I by default have made it... I'll say yay!)
and then my favorite 1. Grow 5 inches.
Not only have I grown close to 0 inches, I put on 5 pounds. I'll have to vote a "nope"
Eh. 2/5 ain't bad.
But anyway, I guess tradition deems I should make fresh new years resolutions. Here it is, for 2007:
2. K.I.T. in college (inspired by eric) 1. Sleep even more

So... Winter Ball was awesome! Tom said he couldn't believe I went to a dance, and then I realized, it was my 4th dance. wow. Unfortunately, me being a guy, I did not bring a camera. For pictures, check out the girls' LJ's.
Short story:
1. picked up Michael (hahaha. that sounds weird) 2. get on the wrong street on the way to Vicky's house 3. get to Vicky's house, Vicky and Tarannum still doi make-up 4. Andrew is playing piano, and plays this song I think I played before! 5. Michael remarks how long it takes for girls to get ready 6. Michael expounds on government 7. Girls look great, nancy arrives, eating time! 8. Delicious food (learned that bok choi is bai cai) 9. photos and then woosh the way to the dance! 10. what do you do at dances? The Barbie Song was great as always, learned some Salsa (horrible footwork on my part), and the songs this time actually weren't all blaring noises! . . . n-2 return to Vicky's via 6 in a car n-1 have some great hot chocolate and sun chips! n-0 return home on Vicky's car
That was fun! thx vicky!
I also got this very funny mail. It was a magazine from Marie Claire, and the letter was: (note: unitalics are my comments)
Dear Kevin Shen:
We're writing to share some good news! ... You will love Marie Claire because Marie Claire was created for a very special reader like you (awwwwwww) a woman who demands substance, style and reality (that's right! I just crave substance, style and reality) Marie Claire helps you expand. Takes you to the corners of the earth to experience its sensations. See for yourself! ...
And there was some more. But wow. I feel so pretty.

High heels are a weird mix... They really boost the ego by making one taller (I used to think they were only marginally higher than a sneaker), but hurt the feet a LOT. I also learned why girls often cross their legs when walking on heels. Anyway, I was surprised I could run in them, although it felt like they were going to break
So for Monopoly day Patrick and I were Microsoft Employees... Not many people were too keen on that, apparently. Even less were keen about "U Got B0t!" (like when monopolies acquire everybody, ha. ha.). The best reaction I got was when I went to Horner. I had left that name tag on, and a kid said, "Hey! You work at Microsoft right? Can you help me with Windows?"

Haha... I haven't posted in quite a while! Anyway, Wow... senior year has been so fun! Thanks to everybody's who've made it so special so far. Really, thanks everyone! And yes - I'll use that bag.
For my b-day I went to todai with my sister. Todai was pretty empty, and almost everyboyd in there was there for someone's birthday. In fact, at one point they told all the b-day people to stand up so the staff would only have to sing once. That was pretty fun. And then there was the last high-school birthday cake. So moving. Great mango cake, too.
Before I get too sentimental: Dr. Seuss said, "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." Still trying to do that. Last year in high school, I feel like I have to pack so much into it. Anyway, thanks guys!

I guess I spent my last day of summer OK.
I went to the doctor's at two, didn't see the doctor until like 2:30. The doctor's appointment was pretty interesting. Apparently when my doctor was in Illinois, he went to a restaurant and everybody went silent, turned around, and stared. And there was some kid who said, "Hey look, it's dem dark chinese people!" Lesson: if you like attention, and are chinese, try out Illinois restaurants.
Anyway, I had to take an EKG which tickled so much, and I also have to take a fecal sample >.< And yes, I need to make that face. So you're not supposed to get the sample from the toilet, but instead from some cardboard box that hopefully hasn't come in contact with other people's "poo-poo".
On the way back we found out that in the two hours I was in the doctor's office, some workers had repaved the road right at the entrance, so we had to move the roadblock ourselves and drive on soft asphalt (so soft I could step and dent it).
Before we went home we went to Mitsuwa, where they have some great japanese english like always. My favorite was this animal candy, which had the names of animals inscribed on the little animal shapes. So there's the typical dog, camel, etc... and best of all, a chicken that said "COCK"! Too bad my cell phone camera's resolution wasn't good enough.
Well, good luck everybody. Senior year starts in less than 10 hours, and we'll be catapulted into whatever awaits us. How splendid, no?
Oh yeah, lots of sophomores are doing this: 1. Nada 2. Photo 3. Eng 12 AP 4. Anatomy 5. Art 1 6. Gov

Wow, I haven't updated in a while. Been soo lazy. The past week after calc ended went by so slowly, which I guess is a good thing. I don't want summer to end :(
Anyway, in the meantime, has anybody noticed how many more mixed couples there are these days? I think in just the past two weeks, I've seen:
1x: 1 viet guy + 1 black woman 1x: 1 indian guy + 1 chinese woman (whose baby was pretty cute) 1x: 1 japanese woman + 1 white guy 1x: 1 big white guy (who looks like he rides motorcycles) + 1 chinese woman 1x: (ok, this couple is at least 60 yrs old, ahead of the multicultural time) 1 chinese woman + 1 white guy and many more that I can't quite recall exactly. mostly asian + white. come to think of it, my wushu coach is white and his wife is taiwanese...
Maybe one day we're all really going to become at least part asian (chinese or indian)... with only trace amounts of whites. Won't that be sad? The whites, and even rarer, blondes + blue eyes, will be like special specimens that in an extreme case will have to be kept in some zoo-like place (with good facilities, of course), just like those gene banks, so that they won't become extinct and their genes will be available in the event of a horrible plague that hits asians especially hard. I guess it's kind of ironic that the genes of the "aryan" traits are apparently recessive, just like hemophilia. Then again, that gives a possible explanation as to why people were so into eugenics, not just as a form of social control.
And now, I got ooga.
